Ian Bishop’s promising career as a fast bowler was brought to a halt in 1991 when stress fractures of the vertebrae were diagnosed. After intensive rehabilitation, and modifying his away swing he returned to the game and proved that he had lost little of his potency when he took 6 for 40 on a rapid Perth pitch, but he continued to suffer from his injury and eventually retired from game in 1998. He has since forged a successful career as a television commentator.
